AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION-STUDENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE STUDENT SPONSORSHIP

HOW TO BECOME A STUDENT SPONSOR

The Student Affairs Committee of ACA seeks to provide college students, interested in a career in corrections, the opportunity to attend ACA's annual conventions and conferences. We believe that many, would-be-interested students do not attend these functions simply due to financial constraints. Part of our mission is to expose potentially interested college students to the unparalleled professionalism and networking opportunities found at ACA conventions and conferences. Our committee has set extremely modest goals for student sponsorship and are seeking your help in the following areas: STUDENT REGISTRATION SPONSORSHIP Students must pay a registration fee of $50.00. We would like to encourage at least 15 college students to attend both the Summer Congress and Winter Conference by sponsoring their registration fee. The total cost of sponsoring these students at either the Summer Congress or Winter Conference is $750. STUDENT POSTER SESSION SPONSORSHIP The Student Poster Session is where students present their theoretical and/or empirical research on a topic of their choice directly related to the field of corrections and/or juvenile justice. The Poster Session is publicly located for viewing and provides an opportunity for academicians and practitioners to discuss the presented work. Each research project is judged according to the grouping to which it is submitted (undergraduate or graduate), and the students displaying the best research and delivery receive an award. This has been very successful in encouraging student participation and we are pleased with its success. With your assistance, we anticipate continued growth and involvement. To encourage participation in this event, we would like to provide cash prizes to the top three finalists in the Student Poster Session. With your help, we believe these goals to be reasonable and obtainable. The total for the sponsorship of the cash prizes is $775. Prizes would be distributed as follows: --Graduate: (1) First Place-$200 (2) Second Place-$150 (3) Third Place-$100 --Undergraduate: (1) First Place-$150 (2) Second Place-$100 (3) Third Place-$75 We realize that many of you already provide assistance to the ACA and its members in a number of meaningful ways and for that we thank you. The input we received from you and other company representatives in developing this project was very valuable. We appreciate your continued support for the promotion of higher education and providing an investment in the future of our students and our field. Thanks to the generosity of the North American Association of Wardens (NAAWS) and Superintendents, a financial account has been established at NAAWS specifically to handle your donations.
