MINUTES - NIU-ACA: Thursday, April 29, 2010
 
I. Meeting called to order by Jim Thomas / faculty advisor at 3:35

II. Members present:  Kristy DeChirico; Megan Hart; Jackie Blachut;
Chris Zydzik; Shannon Morley; Sean Carlon; Alex Johnson; Rashaan
Russell; Mary Slowik; Asafonie Obed; Mary Docking

III. Old Business: Tours

     A. Jim announced two upcoming tours: Chicago Police Academy
        and Cook County Drug Court. CPA is June 4 (tentative),
        and Drug Court in early June.

     B. Westville and Michigan City (Indiana) tours will be requested

     C. There was strong support for a trip to St Charles IYC. Mary S
        suggested Kankakee IYC as well

     D. Shadow tours and multi-day tours: Jim will explore this summer
        for late june/early July

IV. New Business

    A. ACA Convention (Chicago) July 30/Aug 4 ideas
 
       1. Asafonie suggested a "Meet and Greet" for pizza for all
          interested students on Saturday, 31. She will work with
          the president of the UIC chapter on this

       2. The ACA's local host committee will meet in June and Jim
          will request specific duties in which students can serve

       3. Jim will put together list of student activities for the
          convention and announce in late May

    B. Fund-raising

       1. Asafonie suggested a car wash. She will explore it.

       2. T-shirts deferred until fall to have new members' input

    C. Faith-based projects: There seems to be sufficient interest
       in faith-based prison programming to pursue this a formal
       activity, either within NIU-ACA or within the ACA-SAC

    D. New officers: Call for nominations for officers for 2010/2011
       will go out on Monday.
